The way books like Genki and other books done by the The Japan Times, is basically done through the usefulness of what you should know to get by in Japan, but not necessarily geared for the JLPT. So there will always be certain stuff missing, but through Genki 1 and 2 you should be more than capable for the N4 Exam.
